KENYAN President William Ruto electrified a packed stadium in Lusaka with a fierce, rallying cry for African self-reliance, declaring that the continent has been ‘used’ by developed nations for far too long.

Speaking before thousands of jubilant citizens and several visiting heads of State during the grand inauguration ceremony of Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema, Dr Ruto pulled no punches challenging African governments to halt the reckless bleeding of resources and shift aggressively toward manufacturing high-quality, fully finished products.

The Kenyan leader took to the podium amidst deafening cheers, delivering a message that resonated deeply with a continent hungry for economic sovereignty.

He lamented the historic trade imbalances that had left Africa structurally disadvantaged, consuming foreign manufactured goods while shipping off its own wealth in its rawest form.

President Ruto stressed that Africa must transition from exporting raw materials to manufacturing high-quality, finished goods locally to foster real economic freedom and retain jobs.

Drawing parallels to past political liberation struggles, he emphasised that the current generation’s mission was achieving economic independence.

Turning to governance, Dr Ruto addressed the divisive nature of African elections, noting that losses were an inevitable part of democratic contests.

He called for post-election unity and reconciliation, asserting that national development required setting aside political bitterness.

Drawing from Kenya’s own electoral experiences, he spoke as a fellow traveler on the democratic journey rather than an outsider.

Ultimately, President Ruto’s address at President Hichilema’s inauguration underscored a dual roadmap for Africa: strengthening domestic industries and uniting citizens for sustainable progress.
