MOTORIST FLEES AFTER DISOBEYING POLICE ORDER DURING PRESIDENT HAKAINDE HICHILEMA’S MOTORCADE MOVEMENT,  INVESTIGATIONS UNDERWAY

The Zambia Police Service has launched investigations into a motorist who allegedly defied a lawful stop order during the movement of President Hakainde Hichilema’s motorcade in Lusaka

The incident occurred on Tuesday, 1st September, 2026, at the T-junction of Chilimbulu and Mosi-oa-Tunya Roads as the Presidential motorcade passed through the area.

Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Godfrey Chilabi, said the motorist ignored instructions from a traffic officer to stop and instead sped off.

Mr. Chilabi stated that the Police Service has taken a keen interest in the matter and that investigations have since been instituted.

The incident was the only security-related matter reported by Police following the Presidential Inauguration Ceremony held at the National Heroes Stadium.

Meanwhile, Police have confirmed that the inauguration proceeded peacefully and without any major security incidents.

No crime-related incidents were recorded at the stadium, while road traffic operations were also conducted successfully with no reported road traffic accidents.

Police attributed the smooth conduct of the event to the comprehensive security and traffic management plans put in place, as well as effective coordination among the Defence and Security Wings.

Traffic flow along the Great North Road and Lumumba Road, which were temporarily closed for the event, returned to normal at approximately 18:00 hours.

The Zambia Police Service has since commended members of the public and motorists for their patience, cooperation, and compliance with security and traffic measures before, during, and after the inauguration.
