MTONGA URGES MASEBO TO ACCEPT CHONGWE ELECTION LOSS

UPND member George Mtonga has urged former Cabinet Minister Sylvia Masebo to accept her defeat in the Chongwe parliamentary election and withdraw her petition against Anita

Mtonga said Masebo had served in government for many years and should instead mentor younger leaders such as Anita, whom he said had secured a decisive victory.

“What exactly is she petitioning for? To come and do what?” Mtonga questioned.

He said Anita’s margin of victory demonstrated that voters in Chongwe had clearly chosen new leadership, noting that she polled over 16,000 votes against Masebo’s 6,000.

“This was a resounding No from the people of Chongwe,” he said.

Mtonga recalled that he had previously advocated for Anita’s adoption, arguing that Masebo could have played a mentoring role rather than contesting the election.

“I specifically said adopt Anita,” he said. “The sun rises and it sets. It has set on ba Masebo.”
