Power Dynamos are preparing for another major African football test as the Zambian champions begin their latest CAF Champions League campaign against Sudanese giants Al Merrikh.

The first leg of the preliminary-round tie is scheduled for Saturday, September 5, in Rwanda, with Power Dynamos having travelled to Kigali for the encounter.

The Kitwe-based club enters the competition as back-to-back MTN Super League champions after winning the 2025/26 title with 78 points from 34 matches.

Coach Osward Mutapa has stressed the importance of starting the continental campaign positively, drawing on lessons from the club’s previous CAF Champions League experience.

Power have also taken a 24-man squad to Rwanda, including several new additions as they attempt to progress beyond the preliminary round.

The return leg will be played in Zambia between September 11 and 13, with the aggregate winner progressing to the second preliminary round.

For Power Dynamos, the objective is bigger than simply winning the opening match.

The club wants to reach the group stage again and establish itself as one of Zambia’s strongest representatives in African club football.
