As the window to challenge Zambia’s parliamentary results closes, here’s who’s actually gone to court so far.

UPND’s Sibeso Sefulo is challenging independent Iris Kaingu’s Mwandi win (6,595 to 6,110), alleging bribery and ECZ supervision failures.

Former minister Frank Tayali is challenging his 819-vote loss in Ndola Central to Resolute Party’s Emmanuel Mulenga.

UPND’s Joseph Kazhila is challenging Chingola Central, where NRPUP’s Michele Phiri won 21,948 to his 10,782.

In Mwense, UPND’s Susan Mulala has petitioned David Mabumba’s win.

More petitions have landed in Kabushi, Nchanga, Nkana, Kalabo South, Bangweulu, Siavonga, Zambezi Central, Chongwe East, Mpulungu South, Kanchibiya, Chililabombwe  and even Lusaka Mayor Simon Chitambala Mwewa’s own election is reportedly being challenged.

None of this guarantees a result gets overturned. Courts have up to 90 days to rule, but petitioners must prove—not merely allege—that the wrongdoing affected the outcome. For context, 2021 produced about 83 parliamentary petitions nationwide. This year’s list is already at ten-plus constituencies and still growing.
